Pat and Barbara Roche named Marshfield’s 2011 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Pat Roche, co-founder and retired chairman of Roche Bros. supermarkets chain, in Wellesley, Mass. and his wife Barbara Roche of Marshfield have been nominated by the people of Marshfield to be the Town’s 2011 Citizen of the Year.

The beloved couple quietly supports and sponsors countless organizations, events and activities town-wide (and regionally) on a regular basis. Examples of the couple’s generosity are everywhere: in Marshfield and beyond.

The couple was recently cited for their $1 Million donation to the Marshfield Boys & Girls Club capital raising campaign. A graduate of Boston College, Pat Roche donated $20 million to the College in 2010 to help train teachers for Catholic education.

The couple is so modest, many long time Marshfield residents are surprised to learn that the couple lives right here, in town. It is our privilege to welcome the Roches into the esteemed Citizen of the Year family of unsung heroes.

The Chamber of Commerce and the Marshfield Mariner wish to thank all participating Marshfield residents for submitting a record number of nominations for Marshfield Citizen of the Year 2012 –via social media, email, snail mail and FAX. This year’s numbers represent a ten-fold increase in the number of nominations over previous years’ averages and will ensure that the voice of Marshfield is heard as we recognize an unsung hero (or two)!

The Governor is Coming! The Governor is Coming!

We are honored that the Chief Executive Officer of Massachusetts, also known as our governor, Governor Deval Patrick, is coming back to Marshfield for the third time in as many years to get an update on the progress of and officially kick off the Route 139 Widening Project, which is already under way. Green Automotive, appropriately located on the stretch of road to be widened, will be our hosts for the occasion. Hopefully it will be a nice day weather-wise but if not, there is room in the garage at Green Automotive to hold a good-sized crowd. We thank Massachusetts State Representative Jim Cantwell for his championship of this project. Business leaders, please join us at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 29th, at Green Automotive, Marshfield, MA. Please stay tuned to our website for more details as they become available.
